Why Clinical Mentorship Matters So Much at LADD Dental Group

At LADD Dental Group, we believe dentistry is more than simply taking care of teeth. It is a profession built on relationships, continuous learning, and a commitment to becoming better every day.

That is why clinical mentorship is such an important part of who we are as an Indiana dental group.

We believe great clinicians are not created in isolation. They grow through experience, education, collaboration, and relationships with other dental professionals who are willing to share what they have learned along the way.

Dentistry Is a Lifelong Learning Profession

One of the things that makes dentistry such a rewarding profession is that there is always more to learn.

New technologies, materials, procedures, treatment philosophies, and techniques continue to evolve. Even experienced dentists encounter clinical situations that challenge them and create opportunities to learn something new.

Having another experienced clinician to talk with can make a tremendous difference.

Sometimes mentorship means discussing a complex treatment plan. Sometimes it means reviewing a clinical case. Sometimes it is simply having someone to call and ask, "What would you do in this situation?"

Those conversations can be incredibly valuable.

Mentorship Builds Confidence

For newer dentists, the transition from dental school into clinical practice can be both exciting and challenging.

Dental school provides an incredible foundation, but there is no substitute for real-world experience.

Clinical mentorship gives dentists the opportunity to learn from clinicians who have already navigated many of the situations they will encounter in practice.

That doesn't mean telling someone exactly how to practice.

Instead, it means providing another perspective, sharing experiences, asking good questions, and helping another clinician think through a situation.

Over time, those conversations help build something incredibly important:

confidence.

And confident clinicians are better positioned to communicate with patients, develop thoughtful treatment plans, and provide excellent care.

Our Indiana Footprint Creates Unique Opportunities

One of the advantages of being a family-run dental group with multiple locations throughout North Central Indiana is the opportunity to build relationships between clinicians across our organization.

Our operational density creates opportunities for providers to connect, collaborate, and learn from one another while still maintaining the personal relationships that are so important to us.

Whether a dentist is practicing in Westfield, Kokomo, Peru, Bunker Hill, Greentown, McCordsville, Huntington, Rushville, or one of our other communities, they are part of something bigger than an individual office.

They are part of a clinical family.

That matters.

Mentorship Is About More Than Dentistry

We also believe great mentorship extends beyond clinical procedures.

It can include conversations about patient communication, leadership, work-life balance, practice management, treatment planning, team development, and the many challenges that come with building a long and fulfilling career in dentistry.

We want our dentists to have people around them who genuinely care about their success.

Because when our providers succeed, our teams succeed.

When our teams succeed, our patients benefit.

And when our patients have better experiences, the communities we serve become stronger.

Clinical Leadership Matters

As LADD continues to grow, we believe clinical leadership and mentorship become even more important.

That is one of the reasons we are so excited about the addition of Dr. Greg Velligan as our Chief Clinical Officer.

Dr. Velligan brings decades of experience across clinical dentistry, dental education, and multi-site dental operations. His role will help strengthen the clinical relationships throughout our organization and provide another resource for our providers and clinical teams.

For us, clinical leadership isn't about telling dentists how they should practice.

It is about supporting dentists so they can become the best clinicians they can be.

Family Serving Families

Our motto at LADD is "Family Serving Families."

We believe that philosophy applies not only to how we care for our patients, but also to how we care for our people.

We want our dentists, hygienists, assistants, treatment coordinators, and practice managers to know that they are not alone.

There is a team behind them.

There are experienced clinicians willing to share their knowledge.

There are colleagues who will celebrate their successes and help them work through challenges.

And there is an organization committed to helping them grow.

The Best Dentists Never Stop Learning

Clinical mentorship isn't about one dentist having all the answers.

It is about creating a culture where everyone is comfortable asking questions, sharing knowledge, discussing cases, and learning from one another.

We believe that is how great clinicians become even better.

And ultimately, our patients are the ones who benefit most.

At LADD Dental Group, we are grateful for every dentist and clinical professional who has invested time in mentoring someone else. Those relationships help strengthen our profession, strengthen our organization, and strengthen the communities we are privileged to serve throughout Indiana.

Because dentistry is better when we learn together.

And at LADD Dental Group, we believe that family serving families also means clinicians serving clinicians.

2026 Dental Office Data | Struggling Performance Continues

Over the past decade, the dental industry experienced an unprecedented wave of consolidation. Private equity capital flowed into the profession, Dental Service Organizations (DSOs) expanded rapidly, and large multi-location platforms became a major force in the market. Recently, however, two major organizations— Dental Care Alliance and Affordable Care —have reportedly been taken over by their lenders following financial restructuring challenges. For many in the profession, this raises an important question: What does this mean for the future of dentistry ? The answer is nuanced, but it may signal a turning point for how dental organizations are built and financed going forward. The End of the “Growth at Any Cost” Era For many DSOs, the growth strategy of the past decade was simple: acquire as many practices as possible as quickly as possible. Low interest rates and strong investor appetite made this strategy viable. Debt financing allowed organizations to purchase pract...

Affordable Care Restructure | 2026 Dental Industry Impacts

The convergence of Affordable Care’s restructuring and broader financial strain across large DSOs is more than an isolated credit event — it’s a signal of structural pressure in the dental industry. Below is a strategic, operator-level view of the impacts likely to unfold. 1) Capital structure stress → Slower DSO expansion & recap cycles Affordable Care’s restructuring is largely debt-driven: The company is working with turnaround advisers after a $2.7B leveraged buyout left it with expensive floating-rate debt. Rising interest rates materially increased debt service costs. This dynamic is industry-wide: Many DSOs and small groups financed growth with variable debt that has jumped from ~4% to 10%+ interest costs. Some platforms have been unable to recapitalize amid economic uncertainty. Impacts Fewer aggressive roll-ups and de novo expansions Lower EBITDA multiples on acquisitions More minority recap deals vs. full exits Delayed liquidity e...
