What Does Good Dental Health Look Like:
Normally the body's natural defenses and good oral health care, such as daily brushing and flossing, keep bacteria under control. However, without proper oral hygiene, bacteria can reach levels that might lead to oral infections, such as tooth decay and gum disease. Good dental health also includes regularly visiting your dentist, and staying up to date with dental cleanings.
What Does a Healthy Mouth Look Like:
Healthy gums should look pink and firm, not red and swollen. To keep gums healthy, practice good oral hygiene. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, floss at least once a day, rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash once or twice a day, see your dentist regularly, and avoid smoking or chewing tobacco.
What Does Good Oral Hygiene Look Like:
Brushing thoroughly twice a day and flossing daily. Eating a balanced diet and limiting snacks between meals. Using dental products that contain fluoride, including toothpaste. Rinsing with a fluoride mouthrinse if your dentist tells you to.
How Often Should I Brush My Teeth:
Brush your teeth at least twice a day (morning and before bed time) and floss at least once a day. Better still, brush after every meal and snack. These activities remove plaque, which if not removed, combines with sugars to form acids that lead to tooth decay.
