Why Do My Teeth Hurt | Tooth Pain Near Me

Why Do My Teeth Hurt | Tooth Pain Near Me

A toothache or tooth pain is caused when the nerve in the root of a tooth or surrounding a tooth is irritated. Dental infection, decay, injury, or loss of a tooth are the most common causes of dental painTooth sensitivity can be caused by worn tooth enamel or exposed nerves in your teeth. When you eat or drink something with an extremely low or high temperature, you may feel a sudden, sharp flash of pain. You may also experience dental pain after an extraction (tooth is pulled out).  Recently, my wisdom tooth was causing me pain, and it needed to be extracted. Here is a first hand view of what my wisdom tooth extraction looked like:

Stress can also lead to dental pain by causing you to clench your jaw and grind your teeth. This can lead to tooth pain or cause TMJ. If your dentist finds that you have TMJ Syndrome you might need a dental splint to reposition the lower jaw. Otherwise, try some warm compresses, eating soft foods and reducing stress

Why Are My Teeth Sensitive to Pressure

The main reason why teeth may be sensitive to pressure concerns the loss of enamel protecting the interior layers of a tooth. Since the dentin is porous, it is more sensitive to pressure exerted on the teeth as well as hot and cold temperatures.

When Should I Be Worried About Tooth Pain

If a tooth is highly sensitive for more than three or four days and reacts to both hot and cold temperatures, it's best to ask your dentist to take a closer look. Sometimes sensitivity may actually be a sign of a cavity or infected tooth pulp. If the tooth decay reaches the nerve of a tooth, then a root canal will most likely be diagnosed. Here is an example of what a root canal consultation looks like with LADD Dental Group
