Root Canal Treatment | Root Canal Therapy Explained
What is a root canal?
Root canal treatment is a treatment sequence for the infected pulp of a tooth which is intended to result in the elimination of infection and the protection of the decontaminated tooth from future microbial invasion. Root canal treatment is a dental procedure that relieves pain caused by an infected or abscessed tooth. During the root canal process, the inflamed pulp is removed, the surfaces inside the tooth are then cleaned and disinfected, and a filling is placed to seal the space. For many patients, getting a root canal is no more painful than getting a dental filling thanks to the use of local anesthetic and modern endodontic techniques. Most people report feeling comfortable throughout their procedure, feeling pressure and movement at times, but not pain. Pain can be eliminated through the use of anesthetic, however the feeling of pressure will still be present from time to time during the procedure.
What is Lateral Condensation Endodontic Treatment?
Lateral condensation technique is one of the most common methods of root canal obturation. In conventional obturation methods, the tug-back in the gutta-percha master cone is recommended in order to create and maintain the apical seal. Condensation methods are those obtained by the “buildup” of particles from molecular units which involve nucleation and growth. These methods are applied for the preparation of solid/liquid dispersions or suspensions, in particular latexes.
What is Warm Vertical Obturation Endodontic Treatment?
Most often, the complex branching of root channels can sometimes lead to channels that have more vertical development, meaning they’ll firm up and down along the inside of the teeth. Warm vertical compaction attempts to compensate for damages to the vertical channels by using irrigating systems such as saline, gutta-percha cones, and heating devices that allow the gutta-percha cones to establish a tighter seal within the root channels and pulp areas.
There are a variety of systems and techniques for obturation. Above are just a few and are the primary systems we utilize here at LADD Dental Group. Below you will find a video of our recent Wave One Lunch and Learn. Take a look, and please let us know what you would like to learn more about!
