Healthy Indiana Dental Plans | HIP State Plan Dental Coverage

Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) members get a variety of health care benefits and services. You can see a doctor for preventive care visits. If you want help to quit smoking, go to the dentist or deal with drug/alcohol abuse, MDwise can help. We can also get you information about community services close to you. 

Delta Dental of Indiana provides your dental services under Healthy Indiana Plan. Dental care is very important for your health and well-being. Regular check-ups every six months can help prevent decay and reduce the risk of other health issues, such as heart disease and low birth weight. Dental Benefits Covered through MDwise:

HIP Plus

• Oral exams every six months.
• Emergency oral exams.
• Complete set of X-rays once every five years.
• Bite-wing X-rays once every 12 months.
• Teeth cleaning once every six months.
• Minor restorative services like fillings (limited to four teeth per year).
• Major restorative services like crowns (limited to 1 per year).

HIP Basic:

• Emergency dental services only.

HIP State Basic:

• Emergency oral exams.
• Complete set of X-rays once every three years.
• Bite-wing X-rays once every 12 months.
• Teeth cleaning once every six months.*
• Minor restorative services such as fillings.
• Dentures and denture repairs.
• Extractions.

HIP State Plus:

• Oral exams every six months.
• Emergency oral exams.
• Complete set of X-rays once every three years.
• Bite-wing X-rays once every 12 months.
• Teeth cleaning once every six months.*
• Minor restorative services such as fillings.
• Dentures and denture repairs.
• Extractions.

All HIP Pregnancy Plans:

• Oral exams every six months.*
• Emergency oral exams.
• Complete set of X-rays once every three years.
• Bite-wing X-rays once every 12 months.
• Teeth cleaning once every six months.*
• Minor restorative services such as fillings (limit 1 filling per tooth per year).
• Extractions, Surgical Removal of Erupted or Impacted Tooth (No limit).
• Dentures and denture repairs.

*Exams and cleanings must be at least 6 months apart

Hoosier Health Wise:

Offers the routine dental care you need to keep you and your family healthy, including:

• Exams
• Cleanings
• X-rays
• Fillings
• Fluoride treatment (age 20 and under)
• Crowns
• Extractions 

Athem HIP Dental Plans Breakdown: 

HIP Plus

 You get:

• All medical and behavioral health benefits.
• Maternal services.
• Dental services.
• Vision care.
• Chiropractic care.
• Full drug benefits.

HIP Basic

 You get:

• Medical and behavioral health benefits, including maternal services. Emergency dental services only
• Limited drug benefits. 

Hoosier Care Connect dental services: 

• Two exams and cleaning per year
• Bitewing X-ray once every 12 months and one complete set of X-rays every three years
• Extractions and up to four basic restorations such as fillings and one crown per year
• Minor restorations such as fillings
• Major restorations such as crowns and root canals (one of each per 12 months)
• Periodontal care, which includes deep cleanings and surgical treatment for gum disease
