Why Sedation Dentistry | Wisdom Teeth Extraction Cases

Wisdom tooth extractions are one of the most common oral surgery procedures, but they can also cause anxiety for many patients. At LADD Dental Group, we understand that the thought of having your wisdom teeth removed can be overwhelming. That’s why we offer sedation dentistry to help make the experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Many of our patients have chosen sedation for their wisdom tooth extractions and have had amazing experiences—here’s why!

Why Patients Request Sedation for Wisdom Tooth Extractions

There are several reasons why patients opt for sedation during this procedure:

1. Eases Dental Anxiety & Fear

Dental anxiety is incredibly common, and for some, it can prevent them from seeking necessary care. Sedation helps patients feel calm and relaxed, making the entire process much more manageable.

2. Pain Management & Comfort

Even though local anesthesia is used to numb the area, sedation takes it a step further by minimizing discomfort and helping patients feel at ease. With sedation dentistry, you’ll have little to no awareness of the procedure, making it a virtually pain-free experience.

3. Ideal for Complex or Impacted Cases

If your wisdom teeth are impacted (trapped beneath the gums) or require a more involved surgical approach, sedation can make the procedure smoother. It allows the dentist to work more efficiently while keeping you comfortable.

4. Reduces Gag Reflex & Involuntary Movements

For patients with a sensitive gag reflex or difficulty sitting still for extended periods, sedation dentistry provides a safe and controlled solution, ensuring the procedure goes smoothly.

5. Time Perception is Altered

Many patients report that with sedation, their procedure felt like it was over in minutes! This is especially helpful for longer extractions, as it reduces the feeling of time passing.

6. Less Post-Procedure Trauma & Memory of the Procedure

With sedation, patients often have little to no memory of the extraction, which can help eliminate dental fear for future visits.

What Are My Sedation Options?

At LADD Dental Group, we offer several types of sedation depending on your needs:

  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) – A mild sedative that keeps you relaxed but awake.
  • Oral Sedation – A pill taken before the procedure to provide deeper relaxation.
  • IV Sedation – Administered through a vein, allowing for a deeper level of relaxation (you may not remember the procedure at all). This is provided at our Oral Surgery Center in Kokomo.

Is Sedation Right for You?

If you’re feeling anxious about your wisdom tooth extraction or simply want a more comfortable experience, sedation dentistry could be the perfect solution. Our team at LADD Dental Group is here to help you choose the best option for your needs.

Dental Work | Importance of Routine Dental Care | Preventative Dental Care

Importance of Routine Dental Care  When I was in my 30s and a dentist told me I needed a few crowns , I decided to skip the expensive devices because of my meager paycheck. Besides, my teeth weren't hurting. Years later, I am paying the price in pain and costlier dental work . One of the damaged teeth that needed a crown distorted my bite, making a minor jaw-joint problem even worse. Unfortunately I'm far from alone. The price of dental care is steep for many people financially, physically and even socially, according to Marko Vujicic, chief economist and vice president of the Health Policy Institute at the American Dental Association. Vujicic said that the  majority of emergency room dental visits  were for infections that could be handled in a dentist's office. Overall, emergency room dental visits cost $1.9 billion yearly, 40 percent of which is public money, according to his institute's analysis of data from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quali...
